October 17, 2026 · church calendar, feasting, Christ's Lordship
Our goal is to de-secularize America, and one of the ways we do that is by reclaiming the calendar. Secularists tell us to measure our years as C.E., common era, but we must refuse to make such compromises. It is 2026, Anno Domini, Year of the Lord. Secularists want us to celebrate MLK Day, and Juneteenth, and Labor Day. The reason they do this is so that they can declare themselves to be the lords of the earth. Whoever rules the world gets to define the calendar.
We, the church of Christ, must repent of letting them. We must repent of going along with the silly lie that Jesus is simply an option on the religious menu, and that we really ought to thank our secularist overlords for letting Him be on the menu at all.
Instead, we must declare that because Jesus Christ came back from the dead, He is the Lord of the living and the dead. He is the Lord of the cosmos, which means He is the Lord of time; He is the Lord of our calendar. Our Christian confession is that the cosmos was irrevocably changed when He burst out of the grave, and we ought to act like it.
For the people of God, celebration is not optional. Celebration is a Christian duty. Why? Because our salvation has already been accomplished. For Israel, they celebrated three feasts yearly centered around God’s redemption and His provision. While we have no obligation to follow those particular feasts anymore in the New Covenant, we can follow the principle and keep what have been called the Evangelical Feast Days of Christmas, Easter, Ascension, and Pentecost.
What are you doing when you feast? You are remembering, you are giving thanks, you are enjoying, you are experiencing God’s substantial goodness, but most importantly, when you celebrate and feast to the Lord you are declaring His victory over your enemies. This is the kind of principled joy that celebrates a victory that hasn’t happened yet, because you know, by faith, you’ve already won.
